This week in Literacy we've continued our normal weekly activities, including word work, guided reading, literacy based centers. We're now looking at how we can use technology in storytelling. Student's have been creating a stop motion animation movie based on Rosie's Walk from last week. They've been working hard on the skills and competencies to create their movies. This has been a great opportunity to see the future Steven Spielberg's of the future will be!

Math
Grade 1's have been looking at how we can use pictures and counters to tell a "math story" in addition and how we write our number sentence (e.g.: 4 + 3 = 7) to represent adding.
Grade 2's have been looking at how we can use inverse relationships in adding and subtract. For example:
9 + 8 = 17 17 - 8 = 9
8 + 9 = 17 17 - 9 = 8

Science/Social
We're doing some work that fit together between our new unit in Science of Building Things and mapping skills in Social Studies.
Student's are creating a 3D map of a community. We've come up with items to use to represent our buildings and tested their durability and easiness to work with. Our class has come to a consensus that milk cartons are great to build with, but not so great to paint on. To solve this problem, students have suggested we paper mache over the cartons. We've been busy doing a lot of preparation for this. Stay tuned!
