This week we've finished publishing and illustrating our non-fiction books. The children have done a great job on fact finding using books and digital resources from learnalberta.ca to research their animal. Watch for them to come home this weekend!
Our next theme in literacy will be looking at the autobiography. We've begun to brainstorm important information we would want to include about ourselves. If you could help us out by supplying your children with information about their backgrounds, birthplaces and other important information, that would be great!
We're nearly finished our novel, Jasper John Dooley: Star of the Week. Our class has really enjoyed this!
Math
This week we have been looking at Data and Data Handling. Students have been looking at how to organize information into different groups and to decipher how information has been sorted.
We have also begun to look at what pictograms are, noting they have titles and legends. We surveyed our school to find out what their favourite types of drinks were!
Science
This week we have been looking at our sense of smell. Students have learned about how smell receptors work, how smell molecules travel through the air, and completed some experiments to test their sense of smell.
Social Studies
We have been looking at daily life in Meteghan, its climate and weather (with discussions of what climate vs. weather is). We even had a chance to have a performance by a Celtic fiddler at our school - the fiddle being such an important part of Acadian life and music!
PE
We're continuing on with gymnastics until the end of next week. Please ensure students are dressed for PE and ready to complete floor work. Students should be wearing comfortable clothes and we practice barefooted (so no stockings). Thank you kindly for this.
Jump Rope for Heart
We kicked off our Jump Rope for Heart Campaign this week and will continue until Monday June 6th.
