This week in Literacy, we've been looking at ways we communicate. We've discussed the postcard and it's use in history. We learned about postcards by reading the book Meerkat Mail . It was a great an interactive way to learn about Meerkats and their cousins, the mongoose.
This week, we've begun a read aloud chapter book, Stanley Goes to Space.
Math
This week in math we've begun our unit on geometry. Students have been investigating different type of polygons, and ways we sort polygons. We've looked at how we can classify shapes by the number of sides and corners (vertices).
Science
This week student explored how to make floating objects sink and vice versa, using what they learned about buoyant materials. Students had a challenge in getting quite a heavy metal knife to float in water. It was interesting to see and hear about their process of how to get the butter knife to float, as it was quite heavy. Ask them about it!
Social Studies
This week in Social we've been looking at the value of public spaces, and what makes a good public space. Together we've been creating a guide to public spaces and to help us evaluate them.
Below are screenshots of the evaluation we created.
We've also had some excitement with the Flames making it to the playoffs last night!! Good luck to the Flames!
