Hi Parents!

It seems like quite awhile since my last blog update - my apologies.

Literacy

This week in literacy we've been looking at circle stories and the cycle of circle stories. Much of our work has been focused around the Laura Numeroff books... "If you give a .... "

We've also begun looking at oral storytelling with Jeff Stockton, our storytelling residency. Student's have come up with some great stories to retell.

Math

We've begun a new unit of measurement in Math. We've been looking at measuring in non-standard units as well as looking at the distance around objects. Student's have also started to look at concepts of surface area.

Science

In Science this week we've been looking at the states of matter with water - how water can turn from a solid to liquid to gas.

We've also looked at the water cycle in our environment and examining the concept of evaporation with a class experiment.

Social Studies

In Social Studies we've been learning about the early days of Saskatoon and the First Nations people who lived there. We looked at what brought people out west to Saskatoon (the railway) and who settled there (Ukrainians, Germans and British mostly).

This brought  us to talking about where we and our families are from. Student's brought some really interesting stories about their family histories of Canadian immigration. People came from war, famine and promise of farm land! Thanks so much to the families that shared.
