Literacy
Last week we read Billy’s Boogers, about a creative mind who is quite a creative writer (as the title suggests, about boogers!). Student’s asked if they could create their own fictional stories of choice. They spent this week working and finishing those stories up.
Our St. Patrick’s Day literacy task was creating a menu…. of foods that are all green and green inspired food. Check some out below!
Math
This week in math, we’ve been examining concepts of mass. Our grade 1’s have been looking at heavier and lighter, while the grade 2’s have been looking at finding the mass of different objects using nonstandard measurements, such as pennies and blocks.
Grade 2’s have also looked at volume and how we use the standard measurement of liters (L) and milliliters (mL) to measure fluids.
Science
This week in science we’ve been continued to look at the importance of water, who needs water and water access around the world. We’ve looked at the role water plays to the survival and habitats of humans, mammals, sea animals and plants.
Student’s spearheaded an effort to try and raise $29 as a class to buy 10 families access to clean water for one year. I told them if they could do this, I would also match an additional $29. Well done room 2! Students raise $129.00. This is enough to help many families access clean and safe drinking water, as well as access to life saving rehydration therapies.
What an amazing group of individuals coming together to care for others. I’m so proud of them!
