Ongoing Homework:
Ongoing homework that students could begin practicing is their basic addition and subtraction facts. This will help your child with building memory for simple addition and subtraction facts.
Literacy
We've continued our usual guiding reading centers as well as word work through the week. Room 2 has also been working on creating their own stories. Student's have been working hard on creating a plan for their writing, looking at main characters, settings, problems and solutions. Student's have begun to write on Thursday and Friday and will continue to work and revise them next week.
Math
This week in math, we've continued to look at column addition (without regrouping). We've been examining the importance of place value in addition, as mixing up numbers can impact work. Students have also been looking at how we can use place value mats and base 10 blocks to help us with understanding place value.
Science
In science this week, students reflected on building their puppets on the creation process and what worked/didn't work about it, and what they would do differently. We've also been examining and classifying different types of building materials and fasteners. Students have also had a chance to virtually build using Google Chromes app, BuildingWithChrome (Google Chrome browser is required for this app).
Social Studies
This week we've been looking at what urban centers are, what we would find in urban environments and who typically lives in urban centers. Students had a particular interest in "landmark" buildings in urban centers and we spent some time looking at a variety of landmarks in different cities (students all loved the Petronas Towers!)
